Leave it to Japan to keep dogs and cats cool by turning them in to part pet, part robot.
A Tokyo clothing maker created a wearable fan for pets to make their walks a little cooler amid an unbearable Japan heatwave, according to a report.
“I usually use dry ice packs (to keep the dog cool). But I think it’s easier to walk my dog if we have this fan,” said Mami Kumamoto, owner of a miniature poodle.
The wearable fan is battery-operated and attaches to a mesh outfit, according to Reuters.
As pets make a robotic fashion statement, the fan will blow air around their body, keeping them cool during walks.
Rei Uzawa, the president of Sweet Mommy and creator of the wearable fans, says she created the idea when she noticed her dog was exhausted from hot walks outside.
“There was almost no rainy season this year, so the hot days came early,” said Uzawa.
Pets are in dire need of the $74 cooling device, with Tokyo breaking the longest heatwave on record with temperatures up to 95 Fahrenheit for nine days.
The Sweet Mommy owner collaborated with a veterinarian to make the product in five different sizes for dogs and cats.
The company has sold around 100 wearable fans since its July release and plans to see more sales as temperatures continue to rise.
