Firefighters had put out the blaze by Sunday evening.

According to RCMP, two homes were destroyed and two others were damaged by the fire. Both houses were unoccupied at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported, although one family pet was killed. The type of animal was not immediately confirmed on Sunday.

The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious or criminal, but Okotoks RCMP and the fire department are investigating.

“Okotoks RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in restricting their water usage and avoiding the area,” said a news release from the RCMP.
