Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.
Fall fashion is back in session after a sweaty, sunny summer.
Summer is great and all, but it goes without saying that fall is the best season, sartorially speaking. We can all thank Meg Ryan—and Billy Crystal, for that matter—for passing down the seasonal style bible of chunky sweaters, loose trousers, and loafers. Now is the time to get comfortable, autumnal, and decidedly less sweaty. With that in mind, like every month, we rounded up the fashion news you need to know (and add to cart ASAP). From Target’s new apparel and accessories brand to Cara Delevingne’s genderless capsule for Karl Lagerfeld, there’s something for everyone here.
Who: Target and Kahlana Barfield Brown
What: New apparel and accessories brand, Future Collective
Where: Available online at target.com and in select stores
Why: It’s no secret that Target loves to collaborate. From Thakoon and Rodarte to Jason Wu and Lily Pulitzer, the retailer has historically teamed up with the best of the best in fashion. For its new apparel and accessories brand Future Collective, which will offer exclusive collections from a diverse lineup of influencers, it partnered with former editor Kahlana Barfield Brown. The 120-piece range takes cues from her own enviable closet, at swallowable prices under $35 and in sizes XXS-4X. To create it, Brown drew inspiration from her own sartorial formula of streetwear-inspired looks and riffs on classics. “For me, it starts with the essentials, so I wanted the collection to be rooted in pieces like denim, bodysuits, and jackets that are versatile,” she exclusively tells ELLE.com. “You’ll find a mix of cool details and silhouettes made for every body, with pieces that can be mixed and matched to find your perfect fit.”
Who: Dolce & Gabbana and Neiman Marcus
What: Runway show and luncheon celebrating the 48th Crystal Charity Ball and Luncheon
Where: Neiman Marcus NorthPark, Dallas, Texas
Why: Everything is bigger in Texas, including their philanthropic efforts. The Crystal Charity Ball celebrated its 48th anniversary with a special visit from Italian master designers Dolce & Gabbana, who are premier partners of Neiman Marcus. The Fall/Winter 2022 collection was shown to distinguished guests followed by a luncheon, bringing the futuristic offerings to the heart of Dallas. Ten Best Dressed honorees were recognized and the donations from the ball will benefit ten local charities. It’s all in day’s work to look good and do good.
Who: Cara Delevingne and Karl Lagerfeld
What: Capsule collection
Where: Available online at karl.com and in Karl Lagerfeld stores
Why: Considering how Cara Delevingne was a longtime muse and friend of Karl Lagerfeld, it makes perfect sense that the fashion legend’s posthumous brand would collaborate with the actress and model on a capsule collection. Named Cara Loves Karl, the gender-neutral range includes ready-to-wear pieces (like this office-ready tuxedo minidress) and accessories made from sustainable materials, in sizes from XXS to XXL. The launch comes in tandem with digital avatars of Delevingne and Lagerfeld, a 3D screen in NYC’s Times Square, pop-up shops worldwide, and, of course, parties.
Who: Roxanne Assoulin
What: New collection of rings, “A Dash of Rings”
Where: Available online at roxanneassoulin.com
Why: Cult-favorite jewelry designer Roxanne Assoulin, known for her colorful friendship-style enamel bracelets, is officially expanding into rings. Cleverly named “A Dash of Rings,” the collection available to purchase in sets of four or two, so you can mix and match them to your heart’s content.
Who: Bottega Veneta
What: Collaboration with The Strand
Where: Available exclusively at Bottega Veneta’s Soho store and online at bottegaveneta.com starting Sept. 15
Why: When you think of The Strand, you likely conjure images of endless book stacks, and, of course, the totes. A staple accessory of NYC, the tote is a tried-and-true classic, and one that Bottega Veneta creative director Matthieu Blazy is putting his spin on with three different versions rendered in the label’s luxe Italian leather. Blazy has also curated a list of his favorite books at the store, which will be available to shop until the end of the month. Consider your fall reading list handled.
Who: Everlane
What: Everlane Editions capsule
Where: Available online at everlane.com and in Everlane stores
Why: Everlane knows you’re having trouble getting dressed in the morning, so much so that the company introduced its inaugural Editions capsule, The Power of 10. The name stems from the idea that we only wear 10 percent of our wardrobe (facts), something that the basics brand is hoping to change with streamlined, ultra-minimal capsules that are made sustainably and built to last. With each new addition, hopefully that statistic starts shifting towards more wear—and less nonsense.
Who: Frame
What: Second collaboration with Ritz Paris
Where: Available online at frame-store.com and at the Ritz Paris concept store, as well as key retailers globally
Why: When Frame first unveiled its collab with the iconic Ritz Paris hotel, it was an instant hit. Finally, the impossibly chic property was made accessible through stylish (and affordably priced) merch. Now, the brand is taking the partnership to new heights with an expanded offering, including dog parkas and childrenswear. Fun for the whole Francophile family!
Who: Lele Sadoughi
What: Store opening
Where: 387 Bleecker Street, NYC
Why: Downtown NYC is about to get a bit of Blair Waldorf-inspired sartorial flavor, because Lele Sadoughi is bringing her signature headbands to the West Village. The designer’s new store, now officially open on Bleecker Street, features bold and bright interiors by Sasha Bikoff, and feels like you’ve literally transported to a jewelry box, in the best way.
Who: Guest In Residence
What: Debut collection
Where: Available exclusively online at guestinresidence.com and at a NYFW pop-up shop starting Sept. 11
Why: Supermodel Gigi Hadid loves to stay busy. Between traveling for work, taking photos on her trusty disposable, and raising her daughter, she’s been around the globe and back without missing a beat. Ever the workhorse, the model’s time away from home inspired her to create a line of cashmere basics that will make you feel at home, anywhere. The modern-day heirlooms are the perfect mix-and-match pieces to wear (and wear in). Best of all? Hadid is bringing the usually pricey fabric to the market at an affordable price. Coziness for all!
Who: Nordstrom
What: Exclusive capsule collections from New York designers
Where: Available exclusively online at nordstrom.com and at Nordstrom’s NYC flagship
Why: New York is back, baby, and Nordstrom is psyched. So much so that, starting today through Oct. 9, the retailer is unveiling the “New New York” Center Stage, a collection of exclusive capsules inspired by NYC style from some of the city’s top designers, like LaQuan Smith (whose PVC mini is pictured here, third from left), Carolina Herrera, and Joseph Altuzarra, to name a few, as well as a restaurant takeover at West Village hotspot American Bar, jewelry offerings curated by the Lynn Yaeger, and installations throughout its flagship store in midtown. Happy shopping.
Who: RIXO
What: Extended sizing, 6-24
Where: Available online at rixo.co.uk
Why: Though fashion can definitely do more to be size inclusive, small steps are being made both here and across the pond. Case in point: London-based RIXO is now offering additional sizes, ranging from 6-24. The 32-piece assortment of chic and contemporary styles are part of the brand’s Golden Age collection, which launches today with additional drops in October and November. “RIXO is all about making women feel amazing,” co-founder Orlagh McCloskey says in a press release. Here’s to making that statement apply to women of all shapes and sizes, starting with this fall-ready floral dress.
Who: Tommy Dorfman and Simon Miller
What: Shoe collaboration
Where: Available online at simonmillerusa.com
Why: Fashion is becoming genderless, and we love to see it. Next up, Tommy Dorfman is partnering with Simon Miller on a size-inclusive footwear capsule featuring the L.A. brand’s best-selling styles, like the Bubble Clogs (pictured here), in pastel pink, up to size 45. Because everyone should be able to wear pink clogs.
Who: Theory
What: Theory Project by Lucas Ossendrijver
Where: Available online at theory.com and in Theory stores
Why: When it comes to no-nonsense, expertly crafted clothes made for everyday living and working, Theory has totally changed the game. Next, the brand has chosen to invite storied Dutch menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver, formerly the menswear designer at Lanvin, to put his spin on its tried-and-true basics. Ossendrijver’s take draws inspiration from the comfort we’ve all been seeking post-post-pandemic, expanding Theory’s trademark tailoring with volume and lightness. The collection is the solution to your what-do-I-wear feeling when heading back to the office this fall.
Who: Puma
What: Collaboration with Palomo Spain
Where: Available online at palomospain.com and in select Puma stores and retailers worldwide
Why: For those in the know, Palomo Spain is a brand from Spanish mastermind Alejandro Gómez Palomo that defies gender with its laidback, Euro islander feel that’s fit for both the club and the beach. Now, he’s taking his artful eye to Puma with a football (aka soccer)-inspired collection that provides a heady dose of vintage sportswear, complete with a shin-high sneaker that is not for the faint of heart.
Who: Gabriela Hearst
What: Pop-up store at Le Bristol Paris
Where: 112 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris, France
Why: Le Bristol is the fashion pack’s go-to hotel in Paree, and with good reason. To quote designer Gabriela Hearst,“Simply put, Le Bristol is the best hotel in the world…it’s my home when in Paris.” Fitting, then, that Hearst’s first physical store in the French capital is there, marking the first solo brand shop for the property as well. Shoppers can peruse her pristine collection of ready-to-wear pieces for men and women, as well as the label’s signature handbags. We’ve got our eyes on the très chic crochet Nina (pictured here) in particular.
Who: Kate Young and Monica Vinader
What: Jewelry capsule
Where: Available online at monicavinader.com, in Monica Vinader stores, and in select retailers globally
Why: For the uninitiated, Kate Young is responsible for the red carpet style of some of today’s chicest stars, from Selena Gomez to Dakota Johnson, providing the exact right doses of feminine, chic, and high fashion. Now, she’s taking her second-to-none eye for color and proportion to a new collaboration with jeweler Monica Vinader, creating a collection of minimalist pieces with pops of green and black onyx to mix and match with your wardrobe staples. Young stars in the campaign alongside her friend, designer Carly Cushnie; both let the jewelry do all the talking.
Who: Tommy Hilfiger
What: Collaborative capsule with Richard Quinn
Where: Available online at tommy.com, in select Tommy Hilfiger stores, and in select boutiques worldwide
Why: Tommy Hilfiger looked across the pond this fall to create a psychedelic, slightly kinky, and definitely maximalist collection in partnership with British designer Richard Quinn. Expect head-to-toe patterns as Hilfiger’s signature TH Monogram meets Quinn’s signature daisies; the former’s eye for prep meshing with the latter’s old-timey English flair in pieces that are meant to stand out in a big way. We’ve got our eye on this sustainable, reversible puffer to carry us through the bleak winter ahead.
Who: Loewe
What: Reopening of New York flagship
Where: 79 Greene Street, NYC
Why: Attention shoppers! Loewe’s two-floor flagship in the heart of NYC’s SoHo has reopened with a brand-new look. The main floor, which hosts womenswear and leather goods, is reimagined in dusty pink tiles, while the men’s offerings are located upstairs, replete in forest green. Perfect timing to peruse the fall/winter collection which is now in stores. Get your balloon shoes while you can.
Who: Raey
What: Collaborative capsule with Suzanne Koller
Where: Available online at matchesfashion.com
Why: Creative director and co-founder of cult indie mag Self Service, Suzanne Koller is known for her straightforward, no nonsense take on fashion and styling. Fitting, then, that she teamed up with Matchesfashion’s in-house label of luxe basics, Raey, on the perfect fall capsule wardrobe, rife with endless combinations of pared-back essentials and room for a little fun, too. Koller shot the campaign, featuring Saskia de Brauw, on her iPhone, bringing these ultra-luxe and laid-back clothes to life in the easiest way possible.
Who: Aerin
What: Collaboration with Tanner Krolle
Where: Available online at aerin.com and tannerkrolle.com
Why: Luxury beauty brand Aerin is turning 10 this year, and to celebrate, founder and creative director Aerin Lauder teamed up with Tabitha Simmons of Tanner Krolle to create an uber-luxurious assortment of travel cases. The rose pink and raffia motifs bring to life Aerin’s newest scent, Joyful Bloom, an anniversary fragrance honoring Lauder’s hometown of New York City (in the middle of a spring bloom, naturally).
Who: Sabyasachi Mukherjee
What: High jewelry pop-up at Bergdorf Goodman
Where: Available at the Bergdorf Goodman Jewelry Salon
Why: Hot off the heels of opening his transportive NYC boutique (it’s over 5,000 square feet and feels more like a palace than a retail space), beloved Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is bringing his latest high jewelry collection, dubbed “Bengal. Byzantine. Broadway.” to the iconic New York retailer through Sept. 22. The maximalist designs echo the ornate saris for which the designer is well known, and aim to bring back the grand legacy of Bengal’s history of handcrafted jewelry.
