Pets aren’t accessories, but that’s not to say they can’t look good too. Tyson Beckett asks some stylish people to share the items that keep their furry friends looking and feeling their best.
I ordered Delilah’s (matching, of course) leash and collar from Wild Dog. I especially like the “get inked” tattoo collars – you can have their name and your number printed directly on the collar!
They’ve held up on all her walks and adventures, are comfortable to hold and easily washable. Plus locally made! Big fan!

I set up the Pet Refuge shelter to provide temporary care for pets while their owners escape domestic violence. Our first six months of operation have been busier than expected, demonstrating just how important this service is to vulnerable Kiwis and their fur-babies.
Our "Safe Beds for Pets" programme is an easy way the public can help – $25 a month provides transport, veterinary care, specialist food, enrichment, and a warm bed.
Many of my "horsey" friends swear by Hippo Health’s homoeopathic products to treat everything from mud fever (a skin disease which is usually tricky to treat) to anxiety and even to prevent sunburn in horses with pink noses!
Bonus – it’s a Kiwi business and we love supporting those.
Nobody enjoys the home dog wash, least of all the canine at the centre of it all, but the weekly wash in our house has been turned into a joy since we started using Fur Love.
Laika has a great coat to start with, but I’m always astonished at just how silky it feels after her weekly wash with Fur Love’s shampoo and conditioning fur mask.
We’ve bought our two SPCA adopted cats various balls and beds, which they show an interest in for about a week then turn up their nose.
The one thing that they always love and return to? Our fancy beach towels from Ruby and Baina, which they claim as their own personal beds whenever we’re using them in the backyard. They have great taste.
We bought Winnie Ashley & Co’s 100 per cent natural shampoo for dogs (there are lots of plant-based oils) which smells like pineapple, rhubarb and grass – a nice change from the aroma of dried duck poo!
Black Beauty is the last surviving of our chooks and as such has attached herself to our dog Taco, and us humans. She will jump on our laps and eat off our plates when we dine outside, which can be a little disconcerting for guests.
At 12-years-old she shows no signs of slowing down (although the incontinence is real), and loves her chicken swing.
Despite being a keen swimmer who goes for a dip everyday on his walk Fred is a complete sook who dramatically takes to his bed for the day when there’s even a slight chance he’ll get rained on.
He promptly kicked off the rainboots we brought him, but happily wears this Swanndri dog coat.
