Police: Fairfield man accused of dog abuse in 2018 charged after death of cat – CTPost

A 38-year-old Fairfield man and former elected town official who was previously accused of seriously abusing two spaniels has been accused of causing the death of a cat due to blunt force trauma, police said.
FAIRFIELD — A former town official previously accused of burning and breaking the ribs of two Cavalier King Charles spaniels has been arrested for allegedly killing a cat, according to local police.
Raymond Neuberger, 38, of Fairfield, was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and cruelty to animals Tuesday after a police investigation found that he had inflicted blunt force trauma that resulted in the death of the cat, according to police. He posted $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Wednesday.
The alleged abuse first came to officers’ attention on Aug. 7 when a emergency veterinary clinic reported caring for a cat that had sustained suspicious injuries, according to police. The cat was “covered” in a liquid later identified as bleach and exhibited symptoms of physical injury and neurological trauma, police said.
The cat subsequently died from its injuries, according to police. Veterinarians determined that the cat had died of blunt force trauma after performing a necropsy, police said. They did not provide any information about the animal’s age, sex, breed or ownership status.
Investigators with the Fairfield Police Department’s Detective Bureau and Animal Control Division said they concluded Neuberger was responsible for the death of the cat after reviewing evidence. In addition, investigators said they concluded Neuberger had committed domestic violence.
Two warrants were issued for his arrest. Neuberger was taken into custody Tuesday.
