Neighbours have today paid tribute to a ‘lovely, happy’ woman who was mauled to death in a dog attack in Liverpool yesterday.
Ann Dunn, 65, was killed at her home in Vauxhall, Liverpool on Monday afternoon.
Merseyside Police said that a 31-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control and was in custody.
Five American bulldogs found at the home have been ‘humanely destroyed’, they added.
Ms Dunn’s neighbours have paid tribute to the ‘lovely, happy lady who was always very friendly’.

Ann Dunn’s neighbours have paid tribute to the ‘lovely, happy lady who was always very friendly’ following her death yesterday
Resident Kathleen Ladd, 72, said: ‘I’ve known her family for many years because her husband’s mother knew my mother’s friend.
‘She was a lovely, happy lady who was always very friendly. She enjoyed her life.
‘This has come as terrible shock because she was a good friend.
‘But I didn’t even know she had any dogs.’
A cordon was set up from Vauxhall Road to as far as Alderney Road yesterday following the dog attack
Police have been at the scene since around 4.25pm yesterday when they were called to reports of a dog attack
Another resident said the woman had lived on the crescent for more than 30 years.
‘As far as I know she lived there with her husband and two children.
‘She was a friendly lady and would always stop and chat.’
One woman, who didn’t wish to be named, said: ‘I’ve seen all breeds of dog being exercised on the grass over the road.
‘And I’ve also heard dogs barking now and again.
‘But I don’t know if any of them were kept at the house.’
At around 4.25pm on Monday, police were called to a property on St Brigid’s Crescent in Vauxhall, Liverpool, where Ann Dunn, 65, was attacked
A police cordon remains in place at the red brick mews property, with two PCSOs standing guard, and a green tarpaulin covering the front door.
Ms Wainwight, 65, a friend of Ann Dunn, lives a few doors up from where the dog attack happened.
She said her late neighbour worked as a cleaner at John Moores University, in Liverpool.
Ms Wainwright, who has a one-year-old Bichon Frise called Smudge, said: ‘Ann was such an inoffensive person.
‘Hard working, she would leave for work at the university at 6am every morning.
‘I’m in total shock. I could not sleep last night, think about poor Ann.
Officers appear to be grouped around a side street of houses. Forensic officers are also at the scene
‘Ann was such a nice person, it is such an awful thing to happen.
‘I heard the dogs howling and barking yesterday afternoon. It must have been the time they were attacking Ann.’
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: ‘Five American bulldogs, which were inside the property, were handed over and have since been humanely destroyed.’
Police were called to the house on St Brigid’s Crescent by the North West Ambulance Service at 4.25pm.
A post-mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death, the force said.
Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: ‘This is clearly a very distressing incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the lady who died.
‘Our enquiries remain ongoing as we seek to establish what has happened and I would urge anyone who could assist our enquiries to get in touch.’
