JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You can add a new member to your family this weekend at a pet adoption sponsored by PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend.
The in-store adoption event is on July 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at two PetSmart locations:
JHS said it will also offer free adoptions at its shelter through the weekend.
Additional fees such as the city rabies licensing fee, a leash and collar, or a cat carrier may apply.
JHS encourages potential pet parents to meet adoptable pets in your area. There will be opportunities to spend time with the animals to get to know them. Staff and volunteers will also be present to provide help to potential adopters to learn about caring for a pet and the types of tools, products and services they may need.
JHS said that National Adoption Week coincides with kitten season — peak breeding activity for cats. Shelters are inundated with kittens needing loving homes. You can volunteer to bottle-feed kittens to learn about the joys of parenting cats.
“Both Jacksonville shelters are at capacity right now,” said Denise Deisler, CEO of the Jacksonville Humane Society, “This adoption event could not have come at a better time and we are so appreciative of PetSmart Charities’ support.”
