The Radio Hall of Fame called Monday for Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and Suzyn Waldman. And no one is happier for the broadcasting legends than Mike Francesa, who was inducted in 2018. Here’s what the former WFAN host tweeted Monday after the announcement:
Very happy to see the Dog (my partner Chris Russo) and Suzyn Waldman among the class of 2022 to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Both very deserving. Big day for the Fan.
Russo and Francesa ruled the New York airwaves for almost two decades as “Mike and the Mad Dog.” But the duo split in 2008 when Russo left for SiriusXM.

MLB.com also tweeted a congratulatory note Monday.
We congratulate longtime Yankees broadcaster Suzyn Waldman, Chris Russo of MLB Network & former Mariners owner Jeff Smulyan on entering the Radio Hall of Fame. We applaud the well-deserved recognition, particularly for Suzyn’s trailblazing leadership that has been an example to so many fans and women working in our game.
The New York Yankees also released a statement following the news that Waldman is a part of the Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
“The New York Yankees offer their heartfelt congratulations to Suzyn Waldman on being elected to the Museum of Broadcast Communications Radio Hall of Fame. Both as a reporter covering the team and as a broadcaster in the booth, Suzyn has informed and entertained Yankees fans with precision and care for 36 years. This accomplishment is the deserved result of decades of hard work and dedication to her craft, and we would be remiss to not laud her professionalism and resolve while staring down countless obstacles as a pioneering woman in her field. The Yankees are thrilled to see her recognized in this fashion as she takes her place alongside other luminaries in the broadcast radio world.”

Here’s why it’s such a big deal that Waldman is going into the Hall, according to WFAN:
Waldman has been a trailblazer in the sports media world for four decades, and was, of course, the first voice heard when WFAN went on the air 35 years ago this month, delivering the first of many Sports Flash updates at 3 p.m. on July 1, 1987. Since then, she has served in several capacities on the WFAN/Audacy airwaves, currently in her 18th season overall (and ninth on WFAN) as John Sterling’s “Yankees companera” providing color commentary on Yankees radio broadcasts.
