Livestock guardian dogs webinar set for Feb. 16 – AgriLife Today
February 1, 2022
Livestock guardian dogs, LGDs, and the importance of proper nutrition for working dogs will be the topic of a Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in San Angelo webinar at 3 p.m. Feb. 16.
The free webinar will be on the Zoom meeting platform and participants can preregister on the LGD Facebook page or at https://tx.ag/LGDFebMtg.
The webinar is part of an ongoing series focused on LGDs that features Texas A&M AgriLife Research, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and industry experts covering a wide range of relevant topics.
“Proper nutrition plays a key role in your livestock guardian dog’s ability to effectively protect livestock,” said AgriLife Research LGD research specialist Bill Costanzo, San Angelo. “Using a low-quality kibble might hinder your dog’s ability to keep up with your livestock and protect them from predators.”
The guest speaker for this installment of the ongoing series is Lauren Stump, DVM, veterinary communications manager at Nestlé Purina North America, Washington D.C. In addition to being a practicing veterinarian and surgeon, Stump focuses on nutrition education in her role supporting veterinary teaching hospitals and veterinary practitioners.
“Dr. Stump will discuss nutritional assessments for the working dog, interpreting a pet food label and tools to fuel your livestock guardian dog,” Costanzo said. “She enjoys engaging with working dog enthusiasts, and I think livestock guardian dog owners will greatly benefit from her expertise.”
