Jordan Roo welcomes 2023 – NRI NOW
Publisher Sandy Hall’s and her husband Seth Hall’s dog Jordan Roo is our Newshound of the Week, welcoming in the new year while sister Bailey looks on.
Each week, we feature a northern Rhode Island dog as the NRI NOW Newshound… with a bit of doggone good information.
One year old Jordan is a mixed breed and was adopted from a farm in South Carolina when she was just ten weeks old. Full of boundless energy, she got her name – as you may have guessed – once her owners saw her jump.
To have your dog featured as a future NRI NOW Newshound of the Week, just email a photo and some information about your pet to [email protected].
As we em’bark’ upon a new year and make our resolutions, we shouldn’t forget our fur babies. And so, this week we share “10 resolutions for pet owners,” from our friends at PetInsurance.com.
We can all pack on pounds during the holiday season and exercising is always more fun with a friend, so head outdoors with your pooch and get your heart rate up.
The website recommends that you ask your veterinarian for food recommendations appropriate for your pet’s species, age, breed and lifestyle. Limit treats to small goodies in proper portions, breaking up treats is you need to. And don’t forget to add in some healthy items, such as bits of carrots and apples.
Schedule an oral health assessment with your veterinarian, and ask the vet to show you how to brush your pet’s teeth as recommended to keep disease at bay. Remember, enzymatic chews may also help keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy between veterinary cleanings.
Pet insurers gets thousands of claims every year from dogs that get hold of toxic substances. Keep dangerous items such as gardening and cleaning products, medications, alcohol and toxic plants away from your pets.
Obedience classes aren’t just for bad dogs. Many enjoy the challenge and the bonding time with their owners. A refresher course every couple of years is also recommended by training experts.
Save money on veterinary expenses and provide your pet proper healthcare. Pet owners can now choose from a variety of plans that fit every budget and meet their needs.
You don’t have to take a road trip with your pet to have a fun experience. Visit to the local pet store, a dog-friendly restaurant or beach, or hike a local trail.
Owners should try to make plenty of time to cuddle, play and bond. A little extra TLC can go a long way toward your pet’s health and happiness.
Hire a pet photographer to capture your special relationship. A mini-session can be very affordable and you’ll walk away with pictures you may long treasure.
What do you want to do with your dog before he or she crosses that rainbow bridge? Completing a bucket list can make the last phase of your pet’s life memorable for you both – and make ultimately make it easier to say goodbye to your friend when the day comes.
