JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re looking for a new best friend, you have a chance to get one for FREE!
Wednesday through Friday, adoptions are free at Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Care and Protective Services because available kennels are at capacity for the two shelters, particularly for large dogs.
VyStar Credit Union is picking up the tab for adoptions at JHS and ACPS is waiving its adoption fees.
“We are hopeful that with the support of our friends and neighbors, along with help from our generous partners at VyStar Credit Union, we can overcome this temporary obstacle and move forward into May with even more pets finding new, loving homes,” said JHS CEO Denise Deisler.
So far this year, the JHS has transferred 128 animals into its custody from ACPS. It’s also taken in 1,071 stray animals.
JHS said when full capacity is reached, it makes it hard to provide relief for ACPS.
You can adopt a pet at the Jacksonville Humane Society at 8464 Beach Blvd. or at Animal Care & Protective Services at 2020 Forest St. Both locations’ weekday hours are from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. ACPS is closed on Mondays. JHS is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, and ACPS is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
All pets will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they’re adopted. But some fees may still apply.
