Fetch by The Dodo (formerly Petplan) has limited offerings and services. It doesn’t pay your vet directly for claims, and it also has a longer waiting period for accidents compared to other pet insurance companies. Fetch by The Dodo also doesn’t offer lots of extras, like wellness coverage or a helpline.
Fetch by The Dodo insurance policies include coverage for expenses such as:
Some of the expenses not covered under a Fetch by The Dodo insurance policy include:
Generally, pet insurance policies apply a waiting period to your plan, which is the amount of time you must wait before your coverage begins to reimburse you for health-related expenses. Fetch by The Dodo has several waiting periods, including:
Fetch by The Dodo’s 15-day waiting period for accidents is longer than you could find with other pet insurance companies. For example, Embrace and Lemonade have accident waiting periods of two days and Figo has an accident waiting period of one day. Most pet insurers we analyzed have a 14-day waiting period for illnesses, so Fetch by The Dodo is only one day longer.
If your pet is prone to health conditions like cruciate ligament issues and hip dysplasia, you may find Fetch by The Dodo’s six-month waiting period to be too long. If that’s the case, look to insurers like ASPCA pet insurance, Many Pets and Trupanion, which do not have waiting periods for these conditions.
Maximum annual limit options: The cap on the reimbursement your insurer will pay in a given year is known as the annual coverage limit. Fetch by The Dodo has the following options:
Deductible options: The amount you’ll have to pay before your coverage kicks in to reimburse you for veterinary expenses is your deductible. Fetch by The Dodo’s accident and illness plan has a choice of deductibles:
Reimbursement options: When you pay up front for your pet’s veterinary expenses, you’ll then submit a claim for reimbursement for problems covered by your policy. Fetch by The Dodo offers the following reimbursement options:

Fetch by The Dodo has a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses and a six-month waiting period for cruciate ligament issues, patella issues and hip dysplasia. Pets Best pet insurance has a three-day waiting period for accidents and a 14-day illness waiting period. They also have a six-month waiting period for cruciate ligament issues but does not apply an extended waiting period to any other conditions.
Fetch by The Dodo covers expenses like advertising and rewards for lost dogs, boarding fees, and vacation cancellation expenses. Pets Best doesn’t cover any of these costs. Fetch by The Dodo also covers dental issues, provided your pet has had a dental check-up in the last 60 days. Pets Best also covers dental illness, but pets under the age of three do not require a dental exam for coverage to apply.
Pets Best offers a 24/7 vet helpline and wellness care coverage that will reimburse you for expenses like vaccinations, flea and tick medications and routine check-ups. Fetch by The Dodo does not offer these benefits.

Fetch by The Dodo has a 15-day accident and illness waiting period and a six-month waiting period for hip dysplasia, patella issues and cruciate ligament issues. In comparison, ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has a 14-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses but no extended waiting period for other conditions.
Both Fetch by The Dodo and the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance covers vet exam fees, behavioral therapies, alternative therapies and dental illnesses. However, Fetch by The Dodo requires pets to get a dental exam within the past 60 days for dental coverage to apply.
In addition, the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance gives pet owners the option to add wellness care and offers a 24/7 vet helpline, while Fetch by The Dodo doesn’t offer these benefits.
