Edward Joseph Canney Obituary – Cape Cod Times
Edward Joseph Canney, 83, of Falmouth and West Roxbury, passed away following a short illness on March 22, 2022, at McCarthy Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Carol Welch Canney with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of marriage.
Ed was born on February 12, 1939, in Roxbury, MA to the late Cornelius Canney and Genevieve (Grady) Canney. He graduated from Mission High School and went on to attend Suffolk University, later receiving his law degree from the New England School of Law in Boston. Ed practiced law in Boston and in Falmouth until his retirement.
Ed was an outgoing and gregarious man who you’d always find laughing. He was an ocean lover and enjoyed being on the beach more than anything in this world, especially at his favorite spot, Bristol Beach. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, anywhere warm and sunny, but settled on Aruba where they have spent the winters for the last 32 years. Ed loved his animals, his current dog Ryder, as well as Rory and Rhett who have already passed on. He was a man who enjoyed lawn care and yard maintenance, especially on his favorite toy, a ride-on lawnmower. More than anything, Ed loved spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Carol Welch Canney, of Falmouth, MA; his niece, Alexandra Canney, and her fiancé, Steve Foley, of Quincy, MA; his nephews, Scott Canney, and his wife, Leah of Marietta, GA, and Timothy Canney, and his wife, Whitney, of St. Augustine, FL; his brothers, John Canney, and his wife, Judith, of St. Augustine, FL, and James Canney, and his wife Brenda, of Naugatuck, CT; his beloved dog Ryder; as well as additional nephews, nieces and dear friends.
Memorial services will be held in private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to McCarthy Care Center, c/o of Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 0260.
