He’s still in Kansas! A clever canine became a true escape artist after busting out of a doggy hotel while his pet parents were on vacation.
Jeremy and Sarah Hensen, who hail from Lenexa, Kansas, were vacationing in Las Vegas, believing their precious pup Dexter was safe and sound in a puppy hotel.
But, when their Ring camera notified them someone was at their door, they were shocked to see Dexter pawing at the front door of their home, whining to be let in.
“We were both like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Dexter!’” Jeremy told Inside Edition of the now-viral video that shows footage from earlier this year.
While the pup didn’t realize his owners were hundreds of miles away, Jeremy attempted to calm down an upset Dexter via the Ring speaker while he waited to be rescued by hotel staff.
The beloved pooch was supposed to be staying at the hotel for five days while his owners were away, but apparently he grew too homesick. According to Jeremy, Dexter would have had to scale a 6-foot fence to pull off such an escape, then travel some 2 miles home.
“Obviously, he didn’t understand the fact that we were gone, he just thought that we were home. And he takes his job protecting us very seriously,” Jeremy said, calling his pup “determined.”
Yet, the couple wasn’t surprised that Dexter had miraculously found his way home, since he’s a “very smart” pooch.
“That intelligence can get him into trouble sometimes,” Jeremy added.
