Cornwall dog lovers angry at pets being walked for hours in blistering afternoon heat – Cornwall Live

‘They should wear thick coats and no shoes, see how they like it’
Concerned dog lovers have taken to Facebook to criticise people seen walking their dogs for hours on a sizzling hot afternoon in Cornwall today. About 100 people took part in the March for Kernow in Truro this afternoon (Saturday July 16) on one of the hottest days of the year.
While the march – organised by All Under One Banner Kernow – was about calling for more autonomy and recognition for Cornwall, it was not really about seeing Cornwall become an independent nation or the fight against poverty, second homes and being under London's yoke that people have commented about.
Instead of focusing on Cornwall having its own decision-making assembly and greater powers likee in Scotland and Wales, a number of viewers of CornwallLive's coverage commented about the welfare of the marchers' dogs.

Watching our Facebook Live coverage of the march, Rob Day said: "A three-hour walk in the city in that heat. Poor dogs need to be removed from the owners." The event had been schedule to start at 12pm with a finish time of 3pm with marchers going round the city centre before finishing off on Lemon Quay for speeches.
Stuart Olds agreed, saying: "I concur the dogs should not have been walked in that heat." While Barbara Prescott shared the sentiment, saying: "They should wear thick coats and no shoes, see how they like it."
Rena Patricia Barnes agreed with that adding: "Make the dog owners walk bare feet and see how hot the tarmac is." Dan Richardson agreed: "I'm sure those dogs are loving being dragged around in that heat." And Tracy Howard added: "Take the dogs home, the heat is too much for them. Cruel people, don't deserve dogs."

The event was the second one organised by AUOB Kernow this year, a grassroot campaign movement formed to act as a catalyst to promote greater discussion about the future of Cornwall, from culture and language to second homes and jobs, climate and fishing.
However while the first march was organised several months ago, the July March for Kernow fell on one of the hottest days of the year so far, during a week when the Met Office issued its first ever red extreme heat warning.
The weather forecasters said temperatures could hit 40C for the first time ever in the UK. Cornwall may not be in the red zone – and only in the amber warning level 3 zone for extreme heat – but with temperatures expected to reach the upper 20C and possibly mid 30C, Truro and its cobble stones did feel really hot, hence the comments made by people viewing the march.
Hot temperatures will continue in the Duchy next week. Parts of the Duchy will be getting close to 30C with an expected 27C for Truro, Newquay and Looe on Monday, 29C for Padstow and Bude and 25C for St Ives.
