Champion Petfoods adding grain-inclusive dog food, new wet cat recipes later this year – Pet Food Processing
ORLANDO, FLA. — Champion Petfoods a Canada-based pet food and treat manufacturer operating in Alberta and Kentucky, shared upcoming new products and packaging updates at Global Pet Expo, held March 23 to 25 in Orlando.
Coming in May, the manufacturer will launch a grain-inclusive dry dog food line under its ORIJEN brand. ORIJEN Amazing Grains™ formulas will include the brand’s highest concentration of premium fresh or raw animal ingredients at 90% for each recipe. These diets are formulated with a grain blend of quinoa, millet, chia, oat groats and whole oats to support digestive health in dogs. The line will include five formulas: Original, Regional Red, Six Fish, Puppy, and Puppy Large for young large-breed dogs.
Later this year, Champion will also launch its new wet cat food portfolio, also under the ORIJEN brand. ORIJEN Premium Wet Cat Food is a high-protein line featuring five paté formulas with 95% “WholePrey” animal ingredients in each recipe. Formulas include Original, Regional Red, Duck & Chicken, Tuna, Salmon & Beef, and Chicken & Salmon for kittens. The new wet cat food line is free from legumes or gum ingredients.
The company has also revamped its package designs across ORIJEN and ACANA products to “convey the premium nutrition story” behind its two brands, the company stated. The new package designs feature more vibrant images, clearer distinction between dog and cat products, more differentiation between ORIJEN and ACANA brands, and updated photography of its fresh and raw ingredients.
Additionally, Champion shared it has earned a perfect score through the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program at its DogStar Kitchen in Auburn, Kentucky. Read more about the food safety story behind Champion Petfoods’ DogStar Kitchen.
