North Bay Police have laid attempted murder charges against a North Bay man after he tried to pet a stranger's dog.
It happened Sunday afternoon.
Police say on August 21 at 3 p.m. a man attacked a group of four victims at a housing complex on Trout Lake Road.
The victims were unloading a motor vehicle when a stranger approached and tried to pet a dog in the vehicle, say police in a news release.
One of the victims asked him not to interfere with the animal, at which point the stranger became aggressive, assaulting the victim with the vehicle door.
The other victims tried to help, at which point the attacker pulled a knife and repeatedly assaulted one of the victims with it. That victim and two others were able to flee to a nearby home and call police, at the same time the attacker brandished a can of bear spray and used it to assault another victim.
Police accused him in the area, and while searching him found the knife and bear spray.
The victims were assessed by Emergency Medical Services on scene and two victims were transported to the hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
The victims and accused are not known to one another.
Jamey Joseph McCabe, male, age 40, of North Bay,  is charged with:
McCabe was held pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
