NEWS RELEASE
GEORGIAN TRIANGLE HUMANE SOCIETY
************************
After a three-year hiatus, Georgian Triangle Humane Society’s (GTHS) Kittypalooza is back! The adoption event, sponsored Mullin’s Pet Market, will be held Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10 between noon and 4 p.m. at the GTHS Animal Centre, 549 Tenth Line in Collingwood. With over 100 cats and kittens available for adoption the animal centre is hoping to attract potential adopters from across Ontario to the two-day event.
“We have dozens of kittens in foster care that will be arriving prior to Kittypalooza.” stated Sonya Reichel, executive director of the GTHS. “The GTHS is currently at capacity, with all animal intakes suspended until Sept. 12. This is the first time in almost a decade that we have had to close our doors to intakes.  We are therefore hopeful that this event will be a huge success and that we can find loving families for the deserving cats and kittens currently in our care, so we can re-open our intakes to welcome the animals in our community who need us.”
To attract potential adopters and encourage the adoption option, the GTHS has opted to significantly reduce adoption fees for the entire event. All cats and kittens are just $25 to adopt. Each adoption fee includes the spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, parasite treatment, and a microchip.
“Each year between 1,300 and 1,500 animals enter the GTHS adoption program, and that number is continuing to grow with inflation, less accessible vet care and an increase in behavioural and medical issues. Kittypalooza will aim to find 100 pets loving homes. “We are very excited for our first official onsite adoption event at the GTHS after all this time.  It is a large undertaking, but one that, if successful, will make a huge impact to the animals and will help relieve our capacity constraints so we can continue to support vulnerable pets in the community and the people who love them.”
