Animal shelters encouraging pet adoptions and fosters ahead of the new year – WPBF West Palm Beach

Pets are always an amazing Christmas gift both for the animals being adopted and the families receiving them.
But many animal shelters in our area are like a revolving door with so many more animals coming in and needing a forever home – or even a foster home.
WPBF To The Rescue: Finding forever homes for animals
The puppy room at Furry Friends Jupiter’s facility is nearly empty.
Canine pathway supervisor Janelle Marrone said it was full just a few days before the holidays before families came in and adopted most of them.
But it will likely be full again in the blink of an eye, with their COO Mary Martin making an impromptu trip to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control just this morning.
“Animal Care and Control is an open admission shelter so they can’t turn anybody away. We got a call earlier today that their intake room was full. So, Mary headed down there to take some dogs from there so they can make room for anybody else that may need to come into the shelter,” Marrone said.

Marrone said the intake of animals can be overwhelming at times, with many people surrendering their pets for various reasons recently.
While puppies are always in high demand, she said their larger dogs are slower to be adopted or fostered.
So she’s encouraging people to give it a try with full support from shelter staff.
“We provide everything here for your friends for our foster families, from food bowls, bedding – we love for them to get out of the shelter to see how they are in a home if there’s issues that we need to work with, you know, in the home with them,” Marrone said.
And the help doesn’t stop after you take your new puppy or kitty home, Furry Friends Jupiter provides support for all families who adopt here with things like training.
