The American Rescue Dog Show premieres tonight in a tail-wagging event to promote the adoption of houseless and rescue dogs, helping canines across America find forever homes. A one-night-only two-hour event, the competition will air tonight starting at 9 p.m. PT/ET on Wednesday, May 25 on ABC.

Throughout the event, dogs of all breeds (mixed and purebred), ages, and abilities will show off their skills by competing in ten different categories. Unlike the Westminster Dog Show where pups are judged based on their obedience abilities and traits of the breed, The American Rescue Dog Show celebrates the dogs that are great at belly rubs, watching tv, snoring, wiggling, and just being dogs.
Since the purpose of this event is to raise awareness and encourage responsible pet owners to adopt animals rather than shop from breeders, a $10,000 donation will be made to a charitable animal organization in the name of every category winner. In honor of the dog who wins the championship title of “Best in Rescue”, an additional $100,000 will be donated. The evening promises to be heartwarming, funny, and a little bit tear-jerking; and will be hosted by Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore. Celebrities Paula Abdul, Leslie Jordan, and Yvette Nicole Brown will judge. Here’s a preview:
