Adoptable Pet Pals: Meet Apollo! – KRLD

Adoptable Pet Pals: Meet Apollo! – KRLD

In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet Apollo, our featured Pet Pal!
Apollo came to the SPCA of Texas in an animal cruelty seizure prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, was fostered and has subsequently been waiting for his forever home for more than three years, almost two of which there were no adoption events to showcase this wonderful fella. He’s come a very long way following his rough start in life and is now the most fun guy, the sweetest boy and the biggest ham you can imagine, often modeling for photo shoots with his foster with all four legs in the air or cuddling in his cozy bed. His biggest hope is to be adopted, finally, into his forever home. Apollo has legendary ears and a goofy smile to go along with them. He is a mixed breed pooch who weighs in at 51 pounds with black fur and white highlights about his snoot. He’s an active guy who likes to trot about and do some serious rolling in the grass. He would be best as the only dog in a home with children over the age of 13. A prior appointment is necessary to meet him and he is available through a foster-to-adopt program.
Meet Marigold!
She is named for the bright and vibrant golden coat of fur she has. She’s a 48-pound pup who is just now over 1 year old and waiting for her forever home at the SPCA of Texas.
She’s a simple mixed breed with a bit of a foxy look color-wise, but a bit less pointy and with some of those big ‘ole floppy ears. She also has some adorable brown puppy dog eyes. She came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray from Ellis County but has come to decide that hanging out with people sure beats going it alone.
Marigold is not too picky when it comes to what kind of home she wants, as long as there are responsible and loving people-parents involved. Marigold thrives on attention, so anyone who truly loves dogs will likely win her approval pretty quick.
Meet Loofah!
He is a very handsome young man who was a bit of a wanderer in his younger days (ergo, he came in to the SPCA of Texas as a stray). He weighs 54 pounds and is covered with a thick coat of black and brown fur. He is fast approaching 4 years of age and is very anxious to be adopted into a wonderful family and forever home. He was a bit skittish when he came into the shelter and can still be a bit shy with new people, but has since relaxed quite a bit and enjoys spending time with the staff. Loofah would love to find a home with a securely fenced backyard and should go into a home where all the kiddos are at least 12 years old. He might do well as a second dog, so bring any current pets to the shelter for a meet-and-greet prior to adoption.
Meet Andrea!
She is a female Domestic Shorthair mix available for adoption at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center. Andrea is just over a year old and weighs in at 7 pounds. She has a classy neutral grey coat that is about as soft as it can be. She takes in the world through her large, watchful yellow eyes. Andrea had a bit of a rough start in life, so she is still a little timid at first meeting. A few treats and a bit of TLC and she begins to gain trust steadily. Andrea doesn’t need to roam a posh mansion, but she would very much like to go to a calm and relaxed home environment. She would prefer to share space with older children who can respect her space, or even and adult-only home. Andrea seems to do well with other cats, so she might be a good second kitty.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
