Local animal shelters are overflowing — and two South Bay pet adoption events this weekend seek to help alleviate the crowding.
A pet adoption fair will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 23, at Wilson Park in Torrance. That one is being hosted by state Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi, who represents the South Bay, as well as the Carson Animal Shelter and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Attendees will also learn about pet care and low-cost services, as well as animal safety laws and updates on current legislation related to protecting pets.
Adoptable pets — from Los Angeles Animal Services — will also be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the BOBS from Skechers store in Manhattan Beach.
The Manhattan Beach event stems from a partnership between Skechers and Petco Love, a national nonprofit that invests in pet adoption and medical care, pet cancer research and more.
Skechers, headquartered in Manhattan Beach, has donated $8 million to help support more than 1.5 million shelter animals in the U.S. and Canada through its collaboration with Petco Love and other animal welfare organizations, according to a press release.
