Indianapolis animal shelter is at capacity, offers free adoptions – IndyStar

Indianapolis Animal Care Services is, once again, calling on all pet lovers.
The state’s largest animal shelter is out of space and offering free adoptions, the agency announced Monday.
“We are desperately trying to get as many animals into new homes as quickly as possible,” ACS shared online.
Due to the full capacity, potential pet owners do not need appointments to adopt from the shelter. Adoptions are also free, with the shelter open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.
The shelter is out of space for both cats and dogs, so all incoming animals are being placed in temporary crates until a cage or kennel opens up, according to an ACS Facebook video by Taylor Coonce, a volunteer coordinator at the shelter.
If you’re not able to adopt, you can help by temporarily fostering a animal and sharing the shelter’s message on social media.
The south-side shelter similarly offered free adoptions in July due to full capacity.
“We are urging anyone who’s been thinking about adding a new animal to their home to come on down to the shelter and meet some of our awesome, awesome animals,” Coonce shared. “We are in desperate need of people to come find their forever friends.”
