DISCLAIMER: This recap of the Letterkenny episode “Lost Dog” contains spoilers. Figure it out, bud, and proceed at your peril.
How’re ya now? Good, ‘n you? “Lost Dog” is another solid outing in the Letterkenny canon. It’s probably the most plot-driven episode of the season thus far, with three separate storylines occurring simultaneously. I always love it when the hicks and skids tag team for certain stories, and “Lost Dog” scratches that itch. The cold open is a fun departure from the norm. There’s no such thing as having too much Glen. He makes everything 10 times funnier. Shoresy is also a good time. Despite having seen his face in Shoresy, I still forget it’s Keeso playing him. Every damn time.
Ready to delve into “Lost Dog”? Let’s get to it.

We begin with a cold open featuring Bonnie McMurray (Kamilla Kowal), Gail (Lisa Codrington), Reilly (Dylan Playfair), Jonesy (Andrew Herr) and Avi (Daniel Harroch). Bonnie McMurray and Gailer take lunch orders from the boys at MoD3an’s. The ladies unveil the pub’s new hockey player-themed menu, which boasts a bevy of dishes named after famous hockey players.

In true Letterkenny fashion, each menu item is a delightful play on words. Hats off to the actors for memorizing everything in this scene. The guys are gobsmacked by the variety of food at their fingertips. And to think they were just gonna whip up some R.J. Umberger Helper! Fun fact: Gail’s favorite player is Gabriel Longestcock (Gabriel Landeskog).
Next, Stewart (Tyler Johnston) and Roald (Evan Stern) learn from Wayne (Jared Keeso), Katy (Michelle Mylett), Rosie (Clark Backo) and Squirrely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) that Tibidoo’s dog is missing. Said dog used to belong to Jivin’ Pete, but … those degens…

Glen (Jacob Tierney) enters the fray, armed with abundant runaway dog knowledge and a detailed graph. He’s a jack of all trades, our fave preacher. He will help the hicks search for Tibidoo’s lost dog, Gregory. Katy and Rosie split up to look for the good boy while Wayne and Glen tackle another part of town, much to the latter’s glee. The hicks omit Squirrely D from the equation because of how emotional he gets. Thus, Squirrely, Roald and STRT visit Ellen, Squirrely’s girlfriend, who reads tea leaves. The skids’ maniacal laughter kills me in this scene.

Next, Reilly and Jonesy wait for their gym dates. They lament being stood up by their bit city slams. Cassie (Lauren Burch) and Tassie (Julia Burch) waltz into the gym, and, once again, the hockey players mix up who’s who. They admire the steez when April (Samantha Helt) and May (Celeste Desjardins) make their way inside. The boys are elated that they weren’t ghosted, but it’s time for beer league. They can’t bring any babes to beer league. That’s ferda boys!
Reilly and Jonesy leave a flabbergasted April and May in the dust for beer league. They devise a plan to retaliate against the hockey players for standing them up. Meanwhile, our dog searches take to the fields of Letterkenny to track down Tibidoo’s canine. I love how these scenes featuring Wayne/Glen and Rosie/Katy are spliced together. Glen and Rosie fill their partners in on Missing Dog Syndrome (MDS) aspects.

Then, we see Squirrely Dan, STRT and Roald with Ellen (Lily Gao). Ellen reads tea leaves for the guys regarding the lost dog. Ellen notes that said dog is confined and not moving. She also sees the letters “D,” “A” and “N.” That spells “Nad,” right? Ellen asks the group if the leaves in the cup resemble a dick. As it turns out, they do.
Later, April and May visit the hockey players during their beer league, much to Reilly and Jonesy’s abject embarrassment. Shoresy (Keeso) is back, baby, and he’s refereeing this game. Naturally, ole Shores takes to his chirping ways and makes the boys’ lives a temporary, icy hell. Glen and Rosie demonstrate how best to call for a dog with MDS, inevitably running into each other after shouting “Gregory!” one too many times. Hey, dogs shouldn’t have human names.

Meanwhile, Shoresy continues to hurl insults at Reilly and Jonesy, going straight for the jugular — mom jokes. Nobody does ’em like Shoresy (or does them, if you catch my drift). Frustrated, the boys quit the game, leaving April and May free for Shoresy to score some digits. Squirrely D, STRT, Roald and Ellen try to figure out why Dan’s name appeared in the tea leaves. We learn here that Roald thought Dan’s first name was “Squirrely,” which is f*cking embarrassing for him.

Eventually, Squirrely receives a phone call regarding Gregory and how Wayne and co. found him. As it turns out, Noah (Jonathan Torrens) and Anita Dyck (Sarah Wayne Callies) have Gregory in their care. We see Wayne, Rosie, Katy, Glen, Squirrely Dan, Roald and Stewart chatting it up with the Dycks. There’s talk of swinging and gaping gashes and slits. You know, the Dycks’ usual unintentional sexual innuendos and erotically-charged language. I don’t know how Wayne and the others aren’t laughing at everything that comes from their mouths.
Anywho, the gang agrees to let the Dyck family keep Gregory, who’s now named Sunshine. It’s a dog-appropriate moniker. Anita is giddy. She’s so good with gashes!
Every time the Dycks appear and start spewing their innuendos, I morph into a giggly 13-year-old boy. Torrens and Callies are hilarious in these roles. I need to watch the bloopers from this episode. Here’s hoping Sunshine loves his new home, Ellen stops seeing dicks in her tea leaves, the hockey bros learn their lesson about ditching big city slams and those degens take better care of their pups.
Pitter-patter — there’s still more Letterkenny to watch, so let’s get at’er!
Letterkenny Season 11 is now streaming on Hulu.
