The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) continues to see a record number of individuals and families requesting pet food assistance each month. The Pet Food Pantry provides quality food to pet owners who are struggling financially and helps pets stay out of the shelter and in homes with people who love them. For more information on our Pet Food Pantry or other Pet Support Services programs, visit us at ARL-Iowa.org/PetSupport. “As inflation and the cost of pet food and supplies continue to rise, more people than ever are struggling to feed their pets. No one — human or pet — should have to experience the pain of hunger. By providing pet food to those who are struggling, we are not only helping reduce hunger in pets, we are doing the same for their human caregivers,” Tom Colvin, CEO of the ARL, said.
To date the ARL has distributed 130,321 pounds of pet food in 2022, a more than 200 percent increase over 2021 numbers (39,776 pounds). The ARL recently received a donation of 2,200 pounds of dog and cat food from Kemin Nutrisurance. The pet food will be distributed at the ARL’s upcoming Pet Food Pantries.
“As a pet food ingredients manufacturer, Kemin Nutrisurance is committed to protecting the health and safety of companion animals. We want to ensure all pets receive the proper nutrition they need to thrive and live long lives and providing the Animal Rescue League (ARL) with the needed pet food to do so was a perfect opportunity to advance our mission,” Kimberly Nelson, President, Kemin Nutrisurance, said. “As a pet parent, I share the ARL’s compassion for helping animals in need, and as part of a company committed to giving back to the community, I’m very proud to support the critical work of the ARL to offer shelter and care for animals in need.”
You can support the ARL Pet Support Services including the Pet Food Pantry by donating to the Paw it Forward fund at ARL-Iowa.org/PawItForward.
