Y2K is here to stay! Some of the hottest items of the season include aughts-inspired low-rise micro mini skirts and ballet flats. But I think I’ve predicted the next item entering its revival era — the skinny scarf. Yup, you heard me. The skinny scarf is one of the early 2000s more polarizing accessories — think Disney Channel stars on the red carpet wearing a dress over jeans with the accessory around their neck.
The skinny scarf doesn’t really serve much of a purpose, it can’t keep you warm, and sometimes it could look kind of, well, for lack of a better word, dumb. However, the skinny scarf is having a rebrand. Thanks to Miu Miu gaggles of girls were spotted rocking the trend, and of course the Y2K queen herself Ms. Bella Hadid, has been spotted in the accessory too.
Below are some recent street style looks to help you modernize the skinny scarf and add it into your wardrobe. I’ve also provided some pics from the past for a reminder of how far we (and this trend) have come.
