‘Woofland’ to reopen under new management at Mar Shopping – Portugal Resident
Dog wellness centre inaugurated on Wednesday, October 26
Quarteira’s award-winning dog school Iron Dog Algarve is taking over the management of animal wellness centre ‘Woofland’ at Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé.
Now going by the name ‘Woofland by Iron Dog’, the centre will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, October 26.
According to Iron Dog, the project aims to “bring together in one space” a series of services, such as dog sitting, therapies and a series of theoretical and practical animal-related courses.
“What if you could join a dog training course, schedule a relaxing massage for your dog while you go shopping, take a dog obedience group class or take advantage of the dog crèche to physically and mentally stimulate your dog? All of this will be possible,” the dog school promises.
The opening will be celebrated with a five-day inauguration programme, each day focusing on a different theme, with nearly all services being provided for free.
On the opening day, visitors to Mar Shopping Algarve will be able to leave their dogs at the dog crèche for free, while several animal therapies will be available on Thursday, October 27. A dog obedience class is scheduled for Friday, October 28, followed by a dog photography session on Saturday, October 29 and several free dog and cat nutrition sessions on Sunday, October 30. Those interested can sign up online.
Says the dog training school, ‘Woofland’ has been completely remodelled and now features new facilities, with an outdoor space boasting several shaded areas and an indoor space, both designed to accommodate the three main services offered: the dog crèche, animal training courses and animal therapies.
According to Iron Dog Algarve, the new ‘Woofland’ also aims to address “one of the biggest needs” in the animal sector in the Algarve: “The lack of quality theoretical and practical training.”
The goal is to educate animal owners and make them “better owners who make more conscious choices”.
All training will be provided by specialists from a wide range of areas, from veterinarian medicine and grooming to animal law and animal behaviour.
‘Woofland by Iron Dog’ events will be announced well in advance, giving everyone a chance to sign up, and all courses will bear the ‘Iron Dog Algarve’ seal, with participants receiving a diploma proving they have completed each course.
Four lessons are planned until the end of the year, two in November and two in December.
The first will see Daiana Ferreira from animal association KOKUA tackling the subject of assistance dogs on November 12, while Iron Dog Algarve founder João Paulino will speak on November 27 about potentially dangerous dog breeds and the legal obligations their owners face.
On December 17, Marco Serrão from KOKUA will be speaking about detecting dogs, while animal nutritionist Joana Carido da Cunha will be addressing natural food for dogs and cats on a date still to be announced.
Iron Dog Algarve also says the dog crèche has become “more appealing and dynamic”, open to a maximum of 15 dogs per day. It now features new environments, decoration and planning, which aim to stimulate and promote the socialisation of dogs.
Dogs will be able to spend the day at the crèche, which will be open Wednesday to Monday between 10am and 6pm.
Monthly packages are available, as well as daily visits which can range from one hour to half a day or a full day. To be able to attend, dogs must have all their vaccines, been dewormed recently and be sociable. Every dog will be subjected to an initial assessment of their behaviour.
Owners can also enjoy a series of extra services such as individual training or stimulation. The area can also be privately booked by the hour.
The list of animal therapies offered ranges from relaxing massages, acupuncture, physiotherapy, water therapy and laser therapy to nutrition, chromotherapy, reiki and much more. All therapies are carried out by trained vets, physiotherapists and nutritionists and are also available when booked beforehand.
Woofland will also have its own store selling dog training items, such as collars, leashes and clickers from reputable brands including Raddog, Ritega, D4M, HEBRÜ, Gappay, ABC Sport Klin, Euro Joe, Good Can and Animal Instinct.
