Five things you need to know today, and should I get a dog? – The Business Journals
Good morning, Cincinnati! There’s a new face in town. It’s my first time delivering the day’s essential news as part of the Courier’s team, and I’ll be sure to share a bit about myself below. But for now, here are five things you need to know to start your busy business day:
If you’re looking for a business flight out of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, you still might be out of luck, depending on the location. Four markets – Kansas City, St. Louis, San Francisco and Hartford, Conn. – still have not resumed flights out of CVG since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Previously, you could fly to those destinations via Delta Air Lines. Chris Wetterich has the rundown on what you can expect in the airport’s future.
Meg Erpenbeck is back with more Greater Cincinnati area high school rankings – this time, looking at the region’s top public schools. Spoiler alert: Cincinnati still has bragging rights to the top public school in the state. You can check out the latest rankings and shakeups here.
When you’re choosing a place to live, it’s based on so much more than just the home itself. The location and what it has to offer are key. Providing residents with a complete lifestyle was at the forefront of Rick Greiwe’s mind when developing Residences at One Highland, which had its grand opening yesterday. I visited the condominium development in Fort Thomas ahead of the opening to get a peek inside. You can get a look at the condos by reading more about the project and viewing the accompanying gallery shot by Corrie Schaffeld.
Wetterich has more important news today, reporting on the next steps in developing a major National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) campus in Cincinnati. City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to sell four pieces of property in Avondale to help house the $110 million project. Wetterich has all the details, plus a rendering of the campus, following Council’s meeting.
Two heads are better than one, right? Two local nonprofits with a focus on families seem to think so, as they recently agreed to a merger to provide stronger “cradle-to-career” services in the region. Liz Engel reports on who those nonprofits are and what’s next for them.

Madison Cunningham’s debut album, “Revealer.” I saw Cunningham perform at the Andrew J. Brady Music Center this summer, and I’ve been itching for her album to drop ever since. To me, nothing goes more hand-in-hand than some good indie folk tunes and fall weather. This album does the trick, and then some.
An iced caramel latte from Urbana Cafe. Sorry, but I’m team iced coffee drinks any time of year. I’m always looking to find my next favorite coffee shop, so feel free to send me your recommendations in Cincinnati.
It’s my first month living in Cincinnati, and it’s also my first month as the new commercial real estate reporter at the Courier. I couldn’t be more excited to be here. I’m starting to feel like I’m getting a routine here, but there’s a few things that still feel off.
I’ve always been super close with my family. Growing up, we’d have extended family over quite often, and the house was seldom quiet. The Millers are a loud bunch. Suffice it to say, going from living in a house in the suburbs to an apartment without my family feels awfully quiet.
Part of that quiet feeling is also because I’m now without my family’s dog – or should I say, guard dog. My family dog, Aztec, is a massive barker. Show him a falling leaf and he’ll get into a tizzy.
While it used to get on my nerves, I now find myself missing that constant, along with the other constants he provided. Aztec was always by my side come dinner time (he knew I was the easiest target to nab table scraps from), and he loved to curl up on the edge of my bed for nap time.
I miss my pup. So, as dog lovers do, I’m wondering if it’s time to adopt a furry friend as I’m settling into my new home. Nothing says coming home from a long day of work like being greeted by a pet, and I miss that.
So, is it time for me to get a dog of my own? Or maybe the better question is: What should I name my dog? Any and all advice for this Cincinnati transplant is welcome.
