Baltimore Humane Society to host pet remembrance ceremony Sunday to mark National Pet Memorial Day – Baltimore Fishbowl

Pets often become family and it can be hard for owners to accept when they have passed on. National Pet Memorial Day, held every year on the second Sunday in September, is a time for pet owners around the country to remember the animal friends they have lost.
To observe the day, the Baltimore Humane Society will host their 11th annual Pet Memorial Sunday Ceremony at their memorial park.
At 11 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 11, anyone who has experienced the loss of a pet will have the opportunity to join the free ceremony at the Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown. 
Veronica Van Hof, director of the Baltimore Humane Society Memorial Park, will lead the ceremony, with appearances from guest speaker Erin Scott, creator of the “Believe in Dog” podcast; local singer and guitar player Joshua Rettenmeyer; and others. 
“Our Pet Memorial Sunday is the biggest local event dedicated to memorializing just pets. It’s a day to remember them in our serene, historical cemetery,” Van Hof said in a statement. “The loss of a pet is the loss of a friend and family member. This is a day just for celebrating our pets and the way we enrich each other’s lives. It’s a day for sharing stories and memories, photos, songs and community.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring a photo of their pet who has passed on and a flower to place in their honor. Leashed pets are welcomed as well. 
Families whose pets are not buried at the Memorial Park or adopted from Baltimore Humane Society are still welcomed to attend.
The Baltimore Humane Society recommends that attendees RSVP for the ceremony, which they can do by contacting [email protected] or visiting bmorehumane.org.
