Our Animal Rescue Team, with the support of our shelter and rescue partners, is removing approximately 4,000 beagles from a mass breeding facility that has received multiple violations for issues such as inadequate veterinary care and insufficient food. Many of these dogs were bound for animal testing laboratories across the country. This is a massive undertaking and we urgently need your support to help us transport, care for and find homes for these dogs as quickly as possible.

On July 21, 2022, our Animal Rescue Team started removing the nearly 4,000 beagles from the mass breeding facility and transporting them to our partners and our animal care and rehabilitation center.

September 2: The last beagle of thousands spared from testing arrives at our care center. We are elated that this week, with the help of more than 120 shelter and rescue partners, we have accomplished this massive feat.
August 30: The last of the nearly 4,000 beagles are scheduled to be removed from the Envigo mass breeding facility THIS WEEK! This has been a massive undertaking and every gift makes a huge difference. Will you donate today to help finish this lifesaving effort and help give even more animals a better life?
August 25: We have removed close to 3,000 beagles from Envigo so far, making this adoption a heartwarming representation of the thousands of new beginnings unfolding for these dogs. We are deeply moved by the many individuals and more than 75 shelters and rescues all over the country who have already opened their doors to beagles spared from a life of suffering in a laboratory. Thank you to everyone who has helped us achieve this.
August 9: Halfway there! More than 2,000 beagles are now on their way to better lives all across the country.
August 6: Another 226 beagles were removed from the Envigo laboratory breeding facility for a total of 1,124 removed to date. We’re excited for the progress and thankful to our shelter partners, who are helping to make this a effort a success.
July 27: A second set of beagles has been removed from the laboratory breeding facility in Virginia and transported by our shelter partners. This brings the total to more than 900 dogs removed from Envigo’s facility.
July 22: More than 400 beagles have been removed from the laboratory breeding facility in Virginia. Transfers begin in an effort to find homes for approximately 4,000 beagles spared from animal experimentation.

July 13: We’re busy coordinating the transport of these dogs. We’ll update the list of partners throughout the next two months and encourage you to check this page often. Please note that while some dogs may travel to the West Coast, the majority will be placed with East Coast and Midwest partners.

Any shelter or rescue interested in offering placement of these dogs, whether they are an existing HSUS shelter and rescue partner or not, should contact us. Please note that submitting a message does not guarantee placement at your organization nor adoption of a beagle from one of our shelter and rescue partners.
Shelters and rescues need community support right now, regardless of if they are taking animals from this operation. Consider supporting your local shelter by donating, fostering, adopting or volunteering.  
At this point, we haven’t needed to deploy volunteers for this effort. We don’t know if that will change, but we’re always looking to add to our pool of available Animal Rescue Team volunteers. Please note, animal rescue volunteers go through a detailed onboarding process to ensure the role is a good fit.
