An 82-year-old retired teacher was mauled to death by her son’s pet pitbull dog in the Kaiserbagh area of Lucknow on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sushila Tripathi. Her son, Amit, a gym trainer, owned two pet dogs – a pitbull and a labrador. The dog which attacked the woman, named Brownie, was brought home three years ago. The family used to live in the Bengali Tola area of Kaiserbagh.
The incident took place at around 6 am when the woman was alone in the house. Later, her son found her lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the Balrampur hospital where she succumbed due to excessive loss of blood.
As per the post-mortem report, a total of 12 severe wounds from neck to abdomen were found on Sushila’s body.
According to the neighbours, “At around 6 am, they heard dogs barking and Sushila crying out for help when she was attacked. We rushed to their house but it was locked from the inside. When the woman’s son reached the house, he opened the door and found the victim severely injured.”
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) issued a manual for keeping dogs named Swan License Control and Regulation Bye-law 2003. According to the manual, people who are fond of keeping dogs will be required to mandatorily get a license after adhering to several conditions.
The manual further states that any person shall keep and bind his dog in such a way that there is no objection to the neighbour.
A total of 4,824 licenses have been issued in Lucknow city, out of which 2,370 are for large breed dogs.
