PET LOVERS ’22 – Florida Weekly

Whether we are more of a cat person or a dog person, our relationships with our pets are for anything but the birds. They preen, they play, and poop where they will. At the end of the day, though, they are as devoted to us as we are to them.
That may explain why we photograph them and share those images with our closest friends and family, as well as with total strangers around the world on social media.
This year’s Florida Weekly Pet Lover’s edition drew more than 1,600 photo entries from all over Florida. The entries included some of the coolest canines and sweetest felines imaginable, not to mention awesome guinea pigs, horses, toucans, and more.
Every photo sent to us featured your animals showing their beautiful, funny, interesting, or surprising side. They all spoke to the loving connection between pet and human.
We wish we could have awarded every single entry first place. It was very difficult to choose.
But not all pet photos could be a winner. (Though your animal companions are all winners in our eyes.)
First place went to Cass Kinna’s Stewart. Second place went to Leanne Thomander’s Lizzy and Leo. Third went to Johanna Hartman’s Theo.
We hope you enjoy the photos in this edition, a selection of this year’s entries. Each entry may be viewed on our Facebook page. We hope many of you will find your pet and tag the photo —and post a comment if the mood strikes you. ■
