Central New York dog owner beat runner up before taking his iPod, troopers say – syracuse.com
Lenox, N.Y. — A pit bull owner who repeatedly punched and robbed a 62-year-old runner in Madison County was arrested Friday, troopers said.
The 62-year-old man was running along a trail at about 6:30 p.m. Friday in Lenox when he saw two pit bulls off their leashes acting aggressively, according to a news release sent by State police Saturday.
The runner then hid behind a tree to avoid being bitten, troopers said. That’s when the dogs’ owner, Shalako T. Simon II, 22, of Rome, confronted the runner and became upset, they said.
Simon grabbed the runner and punched him in the face repeatedly before taking his iPod and headphones, troopers said.
The runner was taken in a private vehicle to a local Oneida Health Care facility for treatment, police said.
Simon was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence, according to State police. He was taken to the Madison County Jail for centralized arraignment.
