No, dogs cannot eat avocados. While they are nutritious to humans, they contain persin, a toxin that is dangerous and potentially deadly to dogs, the American Kennel Club says. While your dog may be able to eat minimal amounts without life-threatening health risks, large amounts can cause “vomiting,” “diarrhea” and other internal gastrointestinal issues in your canine. 
To stay on the safe side, it’s best to keep the fruit away from your dog.

Persin can be found in the “fruit, pits, leaves, and the actual plant” of an avocado, the AKC explains. While humans can ingest this toxin safely, the AKC says many animals will encounter “serious health problems” if they eat food containing persin.
