Are you having trouble affording your pet? – HSUS News

To locate a pet food pantry or other pet-related community service, explore an interactive resource map provided by Feeding Pets of the Homeless; just choose which resource you’re seeking under the “Get Help” listing on the right. Or contact your local shelter and rescue organizations directly by visiting The Shelter Pet Project and choosing “shelter” in the search field. The HSUS provided emergency grants to many organizations that are providing these services in their communities.
For help with housing, food, paying bills and more, visit findhelp.org, type in your zip code and then click on the relevant topic.
Many people want to have their pets or community cats spayed or neutered, but when they find out how much it costs, they think it won’t be possible. But it absolutely is possible—there are many shelters, veterinarians and organizations who are ready and able to help.

NOTE: If your animal requires emergency veterinary care and you cannot afford treatment, contact nearby veterinary colleges that may have programs. If you are unsure what qualifies as emergency veterinary care, call your veterinarian and describe the symptoms.
If you purchased your pet from a responsible breeder, check your contract to see if there is a health guarantee that covers your pet’s ailment. For help with future medical expenses, consider purchasing pet health insurance.
Breed-specific rescue groups may have information about additional help for particular breeds. You can find breed-specific rescue groups by visiting The Shelter Pet Project and choosing “shelter” in the search field.
Each of these national organizations provide financial assistance to pet owners in need. They are independent and have their own set of rules and guidelines, therefore, you will have to investigate each one separately to determine if you qualify for assistance:
Please note, we do not have listings for all 50 states. We suggest contacting your local animal shelters for the most up-to-date and comprehensive information for your community. To find your local organizations, visit The Shelter Pet Project and choose “shelter” in the search field.
