If there’s anything you can always count on in Houston, it’s traffic (of course); however, the city is also home to thrilling new businesses and one-of-a-kind stores. The Texas Workforce Commission reported Metro Houston was home to more than 160,000 establishments in 2020. Coupled with Houston’s rapid population growth, the number of businesses in Houston is steadily growing. 
Between boutique storefronts and high-end fashion houses, you’re sure to find whatever you’re looking for. The possibilities are endless—from local mercantile selling handcrafted goods to the out-of-town businesses making a home in H-Town. While we’re slowly inching our way into fall, right now is the ideal time to nose around some of the new spots that have made (or will soon make) their arrival in Houston. 
Here’s what we’re eyeing this season:
If you’re a fan of Baybrook Mall, be on the lookout for this new fine jewelry spot. Clean Origin was founded in 2017 with a brand name that aligns well with the company mission, which takes an ethical and eco-conscious approach to jewelry, crafting all its pieces with lab-grown diamonds instead of mined diamonds. The Baybrook location will open in November and is part of the brand’s Texas expansion, marking the second store in the state, next to the first in Frisco. A site in the Woodlands is also said to be coming soon.
HGTV fanatics will want first dibs on this new furniture store. Living Spaces, the California-based furniture store, continues its nationwide expansion with its latest location in Katy, which opened in September. The newest outpost in Katy Village is roughly 148,000 square feet with four custom home styles—a classic modern farmhouse, a traditional Spanish casita, a modern home, and a rustic industrial loft. But perhaps one of the most attractive features of the massive furniture warehouse is that it boasts curated furniture displays from famous interior designers. Joanna Gaines, HGTV’s The Property Brothers Drew, and Jonathan Scott, and Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent of TLC’s Nate & Jeremiah By Design all have shoppable displays throughout the store. Going into the fall/winter season, the new location is a must-stop for that much-needed living room revamp.
The Galleria is always going through changes, like last year’s surprise of pop star Rihanna’s SavagexFenty store Now, the fashion-forward have even more to rejoice about. Marc Jacobs recently opened its first storefront on the first floor of the Houston Galleria, adjacent to Tag Heuer and Nespresso. The shop is Marc Jacobs’ first full-line store in Texas, and inside you’ll find popular items like the cult-favorite tote bag, ready-to-wear clothing, and fragrances.
Meyerland pups can now get pampered regularly at the newly opened Scenthound, the nation’s first routine grooming and wellness-focused dog care franchise. The grooming shop, which opened in July, focuses on the five core areas of maintenance for a man’s best friend: skin, coat, ears, nails, and teeth. Pet parents can purchase affordable memberships for their dogs to get routine care.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on celebrities moving to Houston and one thing we’ve noticed is their favorite businesses tend to follow. Studs is Houston’s newest jewelry store and ear piercing bar, located in Rice Village’s buzzy shopping district. The brand is a favorite amongst A-List celebs like Emma Watson, Selena Gomez, and singer Justine Skye. Studs brought its first location to Houston in October, making it the third in Texas. The Houston studio space brings a unique shopping experience to Amherst Street—the store offers gorgeous earrings; however, Studs provides a handful of services for ear piercings, checkups, piercing jewelry exchange, and flatback downsizing. Appointments are available, but walk-ins are also welcome whenever you want to upgrade your earring game.
Houston is undoubtedly a shopping mecca for everything you can imagine. So with everyone looking to move to the city, it’s a no-brainer that Maria Atencio Nebreda and Alejandro Nebreda, owners of the Spain-based children’s clothing store Nanos, opened their latest location in Houston. The luxury children’s brand boasts multiple storefronts worldwide, from Hong Kong to Canada. A handful of public figures dress their kids in the brand, including the royal families of Holland, Spain, and Monaco. Also located on Amherst Street, the clothing store brings international flair to the Rice Village shopping center. Translated in English, the store’s informal meaning is “kids.” As you would expect, the boutique has apparel for the little ones. The outfits range from hand-knitted sweaters, corduroy trousers, and plaid patterned dresses, just in time for the holidays.
